TITLE:  CWU MOSAIC2 GEAR UP Project Site Director

PAY RANGE:   $28-36K  12 month contract.

Quincy, Highland, Omak, Tonasket,

JOB SUMMARY:

This individual will work under the direction of the school administration and NLA group Program Director to implement the CWU MOSAIC2 GEAR UP program.  Under general direction, this individual will provide support to key program components, including tutor training and supervision, match collection, community service, and career exploration, among other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

Education/Training/Experience:

• A Bachelors degree in education with teaching certificate preferred.
• Teaching experience preferred.
• A Bachelors in community organization, public administration or related fields.
• Masters preferred in any of the above listed fields.
• Consideration will be given to individuals who have supplemented their work experience through training or  coursework and relevant work experience.
• Experience in managing and directing similar programs may substitute for some portion of the educational  requirement.
• Five or more years of first-hand experience motivating low-income or disadvantaged youth aged 11-19 to  remain in school and participate in postsecondary education.

Able to:

• Manage, supervise and direct all program operations, including hiring and supervising staff and tutors,  designing program activities for students and parents
• Design, implement and oversee all GEAR UP Project activities;
• Continually evaluate program activities and bring continuous improvements.
• Identify, recruit and coordinate available community resources.
• Help to publicize the program locally and statewide.
• Assist state project supervisor in support of local GEAR Up partnership efforts.
• Recruit, hire, train and supervise State Work-Study college student employees to tutor and mentor program  participants and provide on-site administrative support.
• Maintain proper cost accounting records for all expenditures.
• Maintain records for the project and provide such records to the project supervisor upon request.
• Solicit and track in-kind and cash contributions of goods and services from external sources.
• Work closely with the state project supervisor to ensure that the terms specified in the federal grant  application are being met-, provide all written reports requested by the project supervisor.
• Assist the project supervisor in efforts to evaluate program effectiveness. In collaboration with the project  supervisor, convene three meetings per year with the local community advisory committee, work closely with  community advisory committee members to secure community acceptance and support for the program.
• Recruit active program participation, and facilitate implementation of programs.

Relevant Experience and Skills:

• Demonstrated success in coordinating resources from a variety of local and community-based organizations.

• Demonstrated success in implementing and administering similar programs for youth.

• Knowledge of community, educational and social service resources; familiarity with such resources in the community.

• Broad-based understanding of the cultural, economic and social issues facing low-income and disadvantaged    students and families in the community.

• Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people, including local service providers such as schools, local colleges, community service organizations, as well as students from a variety of cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds.

• Strong administrative skills and experience.

• Sensitivity to cultural and community norms.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Creative problem- solving abilities and flexibility with program design and implementation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

• Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

• This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but will involve walking or standing for brief periods.

• Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects.

• Able to climb stairs (no elevator).

NLA hires college work study students as tutors, lead tutors and administrative assistants for middle school and high school students in a one-on one or small group setting. Tutors w ill assist the students in various academic areas of reading, writing, math, science, biology, chemistry, language arts, and other academic subjects based on students’ needs. Pay Ranges from $8.67– $12.00 per hour. Training to be a tutor is provided.
